Get pumped, friends, because Startup Week is here again! Each semester, tech@nyu calls in some favors to lure the awesome and the talented from the NYC startup scene to come to NYU to speak and interact with the masses. The Fall 2011 Startup Week is October 3-6, with an event every evening.
And this time it’s even more awesomer.
Monday, October 3, kicks off with a panel of investors from FirstMark Capital, Goodwin Procter, and Greycroft Partners.
“That’s pretty cool,” you say, “but I’ve heard investors speak before.” Well, my dear readers, what if I told you these investors will be hearing pitches from student-run startups, and you get to watch the pitch and feedback process live and unscripted? You’re welcome.
On Tuesday, find out how women are moving mountains in a predominately male startup scene. We’ve got a fresh panel of four awesome female entrepreneurs and technologists: Gauri Manglik, Alexis Goldstein, Jennifer Fleiss, and Marissa Evans. Come, listen, and be inspired.
The startupy jubilee continues on Wednesday with a panel of enterprising founders and apprentice entrepreneurs from SinglePlatform, Sonar, Union Square Ventures, and Rent the Runway. The topic? “How to get a job at a startup.” Oh, yes, aspiring startupers, mark your calendars. You will come to this. And you will like it.
Now, if Startup Week were a fireworks show, our Thursday event would be the finale part that makes you feel all tingly and elated. That’s right, friends, three workshops. At the same time. For the business-minded, Lawrence Lenihan imparts morsels of wisdom from his famous “Ready, FIRE!, Aim” curriculum. For the developers, Charlie Robbins drops some Node.js knowledge like it’s hot. And for the creative types, Khoi Vinh and Ben Pieratt share what they’ve learned during their careers as designers and entrepreneurs.

Before I leave you to your further Internet meanderings, I must offer one final plug for the most important part of Startup Week that isn’t actually part of Startup Week: the hackNY 24-hour Student Hackathon. This high-energy jam of incredibly talented student hackers will take place this weekend (October 1-2) just before Startup Week begins. Join us as we code ourselves into a collective fireball of pure awesome, and kick Startup Week into gear! To register for the hackathon, visit hackny.org.
